About the role

Research that ships

We sit between the lab and production. Papers matter here, but so does the pull request that puts the finding in front of a user.

Role overview

You will join a six-person applied research group working on retrieval, evaluation, and model reliability. The work runs end to end: framing the question, building the dataset, running the experiment, then shipping the result as a service other teams depend on.

Expect roughly half your week in code and half in analysis and writing. We publish internal findings every fortnight and externally two or three times a year.

What you will do

  • Design and run experiments on retrieval and evaluation pipelines
  • Turn research prototypes into services with real uptime targets
  • Build and maintain benchmark datasets the whole company uses
  • Write up findings so a non-specialist can act on them
  • Review code and methodology across the research group

Required qualifications

  • 3+ years building data or ML systems in production
  • Strong Python; comfortable in PyTorch or JAX
  • Degree in CS, statistics, physics, or equivalent practical experience
  • Solid grounding in experimental design and statistics
  • Clear written English, since much of the work is written down

Preferred skills

  • Published work, open source, or a public research notebook
  • Experience with distributed training or large-scale inference
  • Familiarity with vector databases and retrieval evaluation
  • Background in a scientific domain outside computing
  • Mentoring or teaching experience
